Accounting Manager

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Accounting Manager to join our finance team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day financial operations, ensuring robust internal controls, managing payment processes, and supporting financial planning and reporting. This is a hands-on role that requires a detail-oriented professional who can lead a small team while maintaining direct involvement in operational accounting activities.

General Qualification

Key Responsibilities
1. Payment Operations & Accounts Payable Oversight
• Oversee and monitor the end-to-end payment process to ensure timely, accurate, and well-controlled payments to vendors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
• Review payment proposals, supporting documents, and approval workflows to identify irregularities, exceptions, and potential payment risks.
• Ensure all payments are properly authorised and compliant with company policies, procedures,regulatory and legal requirements.

2. Internal Controls & Compliance
• Establish, strengthen, and maintain effective internal controls across accounts payable and payment operations.
• Lead investigations into payment-related issues, exceptions, and process gaps; recommend practical improvements to enhance efficiency and risk control.
• Ensure compliance with financial policies, procedures, and relevant statutory requirements.

3. Financial Planning, Budgeting & Reporting
• Manage budgeting, financial planning, and reporting for assigned portfolios, including operational and capital expenditures.
• Review balance sheet items, analyse variances, and provide meaningful financial insights to support management decisions.
• Prepare timely and accurate management reports, financial statements, and other ad-hoc reports as required.

4. Systems & Process Improvement
• Collaborate with stakeholders on finance system and enhancement initiatives, including process reviews, user requirements, testing, and implementation support.
• Propose practical improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and service quality across financial operations.

5. Team Supervision & Leadership
• Supervise and mentor a small team of finance staff, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
• Allocate work assignments, review team outputs, and ensure service standards are met.

Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Recognised professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, or equivalent).
• At least 3-5 years of relevant post-qualification experience, with several years in a supervisory or team lead role.
• Proven experience in financial operations, accounts payable, internal controls, or management reporting- preferably in universities, NGOs, or large organisations.
• Hands-on experience with ERP/accounting systems and data analysis tools; strong Excel skills.
• A proactive, detail-oriented attitude with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Proficiency in English and Chinese (including Putonghua).
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
