His research interests are surface science and engineering, processing and mechanical properties of nanomaterials and advanced materials, experimental mechanics and residual stress. Prof. Jian Lu has published more than 460 journal papers including papers in Nature (cover story), Science, Science Advances, Nature Materials, Nature Communications, Materials Today, Advanced Materials, Physical Review Letters, Acta Materialia, Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids. His publications have been cited more than 39,000 times. He is the inventor of more than 78 granted patents in USA, Europe and China with international extension.
