2 Jan 2024

About the Research Centre

In collaboration with CityU, University of Oxford, and Karolinska Institutet, the Hong Kong Centre for Cerebro-cardiovascular Health Engineering (COCHE) was established with the support of the ITC-InnoHK Programme to develop new ways to tackle cardiovascular disease (CVD), which is the world's leading cause of morbidity and mortality. To address the most pressing health challenges caused by CVD, COCHE focuses on developing innovative technologies such as flexible and wearable devices, biomedical and molecular imaging, nano-biosensing, micro-robotics, healthcare AI systems, and other ground-breaking methods to enable early prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of the disease. These technologies can reduce human costs while alleviating financial and social burdens on the healthcare system. For more information on COCHE, please visit: https://www.hkcoche.org/

Job Description

We are currently seeking a talented Software Engineer / Hardware Engineer to join our dynamic team in one of our spin-off companies, Micro Sensing and Imaging Technologies Limited. This role is integral to our mission of transforming blood pressure (BP) monitoring through technological innovation.

Micro Sensing and Imaging Technologies Limited, established on 22 November 2022, is at the forefront of developing advanced non-invasive BP measurement technologies. Our latest innovation, the Multispectroscopy tonoarteriogram (MSTAG), uses cutting-edge optical imaging technology to overcome the limitations of traditional one-dimensional sensing BP devices. Our goal is to enhance the accuracy and reliability of BP assessments, focusing on mitigating issues such as Motion-Induced Sensor Shifting, Wearing Position Variation, and Wristband Tightness Variability.

The MSTAG technology is a pioneering approach in the realm of BP monitoring. It employs a sophisticated photodetector array combined with a multi-channel BP estimation machine learning network. The TAG imaging system could be used to investigate PPG/BP distribution at different locations, achieving two-dimensional BP measurement with enriched information and could be applied to new generations of wearable BP devices. Our technology is a step forward in transitioning BP measurement from one-dimensional to two-dimensional analysis, enhancing the precision and scope of physiological parameter estimations.

As a member of our team, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Contributing to the development and refinement of MSTAG technology.
• Engaging in hardware design, fabrication, and testing.
• Implementing and optimizing data communication protocols.
• Developing and applying advanced image processing techniques.

General Qualification

• Bachelor's degree or above in a relevant field.
• 0-3 years of working experience, demonstrating a strong foundation in biomedical engineering, specifically electronics engineering.
• Proven experience in hardware fabrication and data communication.
• Expertise in image processing and analysis tools
• Proactive, well-organized, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

Remuneration & Duration of Appointment

The remuneration package will be highly competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits for full-time appointments include leave and medical insurance, etc. Initial appointments will be made on a fixed-term contract of up to 1 year commencing immediately. The possibility of re-appointment after the initial contract period will be based on performance evaluation and mutual agreements.
